She shows a particular interest in functional urology, with studies on neurogenic and non-neurogenic voiding dysfunction. She has also proposed innovative treatments in superficial bladder cancer, painful bladder syndrome and Peyronie’s disease by using the “Electromotive Drug Administration” technique. She has developed new treatments in detrusor overactivity, benign prostatic hyperplasia and painful bladder syndrome by using intravesical and intraprostatic delivery of several agents such as Capsaicin, Resiniferatoxin and Botulinum A-toxin. She has carried out over 2000 surgical operations on general and functional urology. Prof. Antonella Giannantoni has co-authored more than 350 articles, many in peer-reviewed Journals as: European Urology, The Journal of Urology, Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research. She had a number of podium and poster presentations in both Italian and International meetings. She has written a number of book chapters. She carried out a number of funded Research Projects, particularly on Experimental models for drugs absorption into the bladder, as stability of drugs (Mitomycin C, Lidocaine, Oxybutynin, Propanteline, Resiniferatoxin, Capsaicin); pharmachokinetics of drugs delivered by passive diffusion and electromotive administration. She is reviewer for the Journal of Urology, European Urology, Journal of Neuroscience, Neurourology and Urodynamics. Professor Antonella Giannantoni is an active member of many international urological associations, including the European Urological Association, the American Urological Association, the International Continence Society, the Italian Association of Urology, the Italian Society of Urodynamics, the Italian Society of Urogynecology. She is also a member of the International Board on “Mechanisms of Action of Botulinum A toxin in Urology and of Scientific Commettee of the Italian Urological Association. Philip Van Kerrebroeck, MD, PhD Philip E.V. Van Kerrebroeck is Professor of Urology at the University of Maastricht, and works as a urologist at the Maastricht University Medical Centre, the Netherlands. After obtaining his Medical Degree from the University of Louvain, Belgium, he trained in General Surgery and Urology in Belgium, The Netherlands and the U.S.A. He received his Master’s Degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and his PhD in Medicine from the Radboud University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Professor Van Kerrebroeck has a long-standing clinical interest in different forms of lower urinary tract problems, both in women and men, including neurogenic bladder dysfunction. His research interests include electrical stimulation of the urinary tract, and the development of new therapies in Neuro-Urology and Functional Urology. Professor Van Kerrebroeck was for 8 years Chairman of the Standardisation Committee of the International Continence Society and was first author of the Standardisation report on Nocturia. He is Fellow of the European Board of Urology. He was involved in the New England Research Institutes Interdisciplinary Conferences on Nocturia and is past Chairman of the ICI-RS Nocturia Think Tank. Professor Van Kerrebroeck is a member of 25 scientific societies; he serves on the editorial board of six journals, and has authored over 265 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and books.
